What is a Circulation Assessment?

A Circulation Assessment is a painless and non-invasive method of assessing blood flow in the veins and arteries. It uses high-frequency sound waves that produce echoes upon bouncing on the vascular tissue. At Footopia, we focus on the ABPI (Ankle-Brachial Pressure Index) test to measure the efficacy of blood flow in the lower limbs to rule out arterial insufficiency.

Why is the Circulation Assessment test important?

Prior to implementing compression stockings, a thorough vascular assessment is paramount to patient safety. The use of a Circulation Assessment test aids in identifying arterial insufficiency, ensuring that compression therapy is not contraindicated. The Ankle-Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) helps provide an accurate measurement of vascular status. If arterial insufficiency is detected, the use of compression stockings must be avoided to prevent further disruption of circulation and its possible complications.

This proactive approach not only enhances patient safety but also contributes to the overall effectiveness of the treatment plan by tailoring interventions based on individual vascular health.
